Fax over VoIP is not ready for prime time

For all the advances in Hosted VoIP PBX technology, faxing is the least developed and least reliable product offered by VoIP Providers. Fax over VoIP, also known as FoIP suffers from an unacceptably high degree of failure. Industry estimates of fax over VoIP failures are in the range of 20%.
2 out of every 10 faxes will fail. This means there is a high likelihood that almost all faxes will fail, at the very least, all fax transmissions greater than 5 pages will fail. Either a 5 page fax will be missing a page or will fail completely.
This statistic alone makes FoIP unacceptable to business users. Many VoIP service providers, at least the honest ones, recommend that customers continue with traditional land lines for their fax service. The company I work for, AVAD Technologies, no longer offers FoIP.
Until this problem is addressed, I would avoid using FoIP.
The problem has not gone unnoticed. Please seethe following article has to find out what is being done about the FOIP issue.
